Strategies discussed include: dealing with defensiveness, giving it time, using a “both and” perspective, using positive self talk “balanced statements,” making the ego smaller, considering if there is something true in the feedback, zooming out, and taking a neutral third-party’s perspective.
Examples are also provided including scheduling conflicts when it comes to scheduling speech time for students and dealing with high emotions during IEP meetings.
